Inequality and discrimination is widespread in Sri Lanka, and low-income levels mean many people are struggling with high food prices. But gifts like this can contribute to Oxfam’s work around the world, including programs like Oxfam’s Resilient and Gender Inclusive Enterprise Systems (RIES) project that provides farmers like Seetha with the training, coaching and skills needed to improve their crops and businesses.
“I am very happy to say that RIES project changed my life,” said Seetha, a farmer from Sri Lanka who was given the opportunity to improve her cinnamon business through training, coaching and exposure visits to other farms. “Thanks to the technical know-how and … business development skills received from Oxfam, I will go beyond my farming role soon.”
