Gifts like these can weave a smile on your loved one’s face AND contribute to programs that help women kickstart their own business (like making their own textiles). How fab(ric)!
It can be difficult to earn a living as a small business owner in Sri Lanka, especially for women. Poor access to reliable market information, inefficient supply chains and poor or no storage facilities often prevents them from earning enough to support themselves and their families. But through gifts like these, Oxfam’s Resilient and Gender Inclusive Enterprise Systems (RIES) project can support women like Rishani to develop their businesses and become profitable.
“Even though I had challenges, I did not properly identify them until I met Oxfam,” Rishani says. “RIES project intervention created an opportunity to stimulate the business thinking, develop business models and motivated us to make it happen.”
Oxfam acknowledges the support of the Australian Government through the Australian NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP).
The purchase of an Unwrapped gift is a tax-deductible donation which can be used to support projects like the ones described in our cards, as well as in support of Oxfam’s efforts around the world. The projects featured in our cards are examples of a few of the many ways we work with communities affected by poverty to improve their lives.
